I usually reply within two business days. Telling me your macOS version and your webcam model makes a fix much faster.

Requirements

macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple silicon, and a USB webcam that follows the UVC standard — which covers most models from Logitech, Elgato, Razer, Anker and others. CamDial is verified with the Logitech C920.

Questions people ask

It says “No camera found.”

CamDial talks to USB webcams only. The built-in FaceTime camera and iPhone Continuity Camera are not supported, because macOS does not expose their hardware controls. If your USB webcam is plugged in and still not found, try another USB port or cable, then click the refresh arrow in the panel header. Cameras behind some USB hubs are not visible to the app.

My settings keep going back to default.

That is the camera, not CamDial. A webcam keeps its settings in volatile memory, so whenever it loses power — you unplug the cable, switch desks, turn a dock off — it comes back at the factory defaults, with focus and white balance flipped to automatic. The fix is the paid part of the app: click Unlock, complete the one-time purchase, then click Save Settings. From then on CamDial compares the camera against your saved values whenever it reconnects, whenever an app opens it, and whenever the Mac wakes — and writes them back if anything has moved. The pill under the camera name shows how many times it did that today.

I changed a slider but nothing happened in Zoom / Meet / Teams.

Check the Auto switch on that row. While exposure, focus or white balance is on Auto, the camera ignores manual values — switch it to manual first. Also make sure the other app is using the same camera CamDial shows in its header.

Some controls I expected are missing.

CamDial only shows the controls your camera reports as supported. Zoom, gain or sharpness missing means the camera’s firmware does not offer them.

I bought the unlock on another Mac.

Open Settings… › Purchase › Restore Purchases while signed in with the same Apple Account. The unlock is a one-time purchase — no subscription.

How do I set an exact value?

Click the number next to a slider and type the value, then press Return. With a slider focused, the arrow keys move it one step at a time, or ten steps with Shift.

Does CamDial see my video?

No. It never opens a video stream. The camera permission exists only so the app can ask macOS whether the camera is currently in use — that is how it knows when to restore your settings. See the privacy policy.

Refunds

Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through them at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something is broken, though, write to me first — I would rather fix it.
